Razer Unveils The World's First True Gaming Laptop

The PC industry today has never looked bleaker. The world’s largest PC-maker Hewlett-Packard just announced their intention to explore the separation of its PC business. With PC manufacturers increasingly abandoning design and technology in lieu of outsourcing and cost-cutting, the PC industry has seen a severe dearth of innovation in recent years. Gaming consoles have also taken advantage of this innovation slump in the PC industry to garner attention from game developers and gamers alike, to the extent that now PC versions of cross-platform games are often sub-par ports of their console counterparts.

Razer, the world leader in high performance gaming hardware, introduces the Razer Blade – a full aluminum chassis gaming laptop featuring true portability, incredible performance, and an all-new revolutionary user interface. With the introduction of the Razer Blade – a feat of modern-day systems engineering and technology, Razer is reinvigorating technological and design innovation for the entire PC industry, and encouraging gamers and developers to return to the PC as the primary gaming platform of choice.

Mobile systems developed for gaming today compromise on portability and form factor for game performance. While such machines run games well, they are over 2 inches thick and can weigh more than 10lbs. The Razer Blade measures 0.88 inches thin, less than half that of current mobile gaming systems, and weighs only 6.97lbs, achieving a balance between portability and performance – making it the world’s first true gaming laptop.

Developed in partnership with Intel, the Razer Blade features a fast Intel Core i7 processor and a high performance NVIDIA GeForce graphics processor. The hardware was designed torun the most demanding games of today without sacrificing the laptop’s portable form factor. The Razer Blade also does not compromise on screen size as it comes with an incredible LED backlit high-definition 17” display.

The Razer Blade features the Switchblade User Interface - Razer’s multi-award winning, highly intuitive interface technology. The interface is comprised of 10 dynamic adaptive tactile keys for easier access of in-game commands, and an LCD capable of two modes: one mode that displays in-game information when a mouse is in use; and another mode that functions as an ultra-sensitive, multi-touch panel designed for gaming on the go.

“The Razer Blade was designed to give gamers a laptop they could truly use on the go,” said Min-Liang Tan, CEO and Creative Director, Razer. “Its sleek, lightweight aluminum construction makes it the thinnest 17-inch gaming laptop available today.”

"To truly co-develop a gaming laptop of this caliber with a company like Razer is quite a remarkable feat,” said Mooly Eden, VP and General Manager of the PC Client Group, Intel. “Bringing together our engineering forces and utilizing our fast Intel Core i7 processor, the Razer Blade delivers top-class gaming performance in a very portable form factor."

“Powered by an advanced NVIDIA GeForce GPU with award winning NVIDIA Optimus technology, the Razer Blade has the muscle to run cutting edge games with intense graphics while still offering amazing portability,” said Rene Haas, General Manager of Notebook Products, NVIDIA.

“The Switchblade User Interface on the Razer Blade is a revolutionary innovation that truly defines the new standard for gaming experiences on a laptop,” said Min-Liang Tan.

About the Razer Blade gaming laptop
The Razer Blade is a 17” gaming laptop that delivers incredible performance and a revolutionary user interface in a sleek, portable form factor. It features a fast Intel Core i7 processor and a high performance NVIDIA GeForce graphics processor designed in a lightweight aluminum chassis. The revolutionary Switchblade User Interface, found next to a full-size keyboard, was designed from the ground up to enhance gaming experiences and provide more control at the gamer’s fingertips. It features 10 adaptive tactile keys and a multi-touch LCD panel that can also display in-game information. And at just 0.88 inches thin and only weighing 6.97lbs, the Razer Blade is the world’s first true gaming laptop.

BitFenix Introduces Outlaw Mid-Tower Gaming Case

Today, gaming hardware designer BitFenix is pleased to launch its latest gaming chassis. Named Outlaw, this mid-tower ATX enclosure offers premium features, innovative layout, and superior styling at a groundbreaking price point.

"We set out to design a value gaming chassis like no other on the market, and the result of that is Outlaw," says BitFenix Product Manager David Jarlestedt. "Offering features normally found on chassis twice the price, Outlaw is a gaming case that really does break all the rules."

One look at Outlaw reveals something truly unique in this segment. The motherboard tray is flipped upside down, placing the graphics card close to the top of the case. By doing so, Outlaw not only delivers enhanced cooling to graphics cards via the top fan vents, but also allows the installation of extra-long VGA cards so gamers can outfit their system with the latest firepower available.

While priced very affordably, Outlaw comes with many of the same features that are found on more expensive enclosures. On the exterior, gamers can look forward to a handsomely crafted front bezel that's coated with signature BitFenix SofTouch Surface Treatment for stain resistance and a luxuriously soft feel. Four high-speed USB 2.0 ports offer excellent connectivity, while the black coated interior and black cabling lend Outlaw an even more premium look and feel. With Outlaw, users can experience the quality and attention to detail that has garnered BitFenix nearly 200 awards worldwide.

But looking good is one thing; performing well is another. Outlaw is definitely no slouch in the cooling department. Aside from the stock 120mm fan, gamers can install up to 7 additional 120mm fans for a total of eight, and the two fan locations on the side panel can also be upgraded to 140mm fans for added airflow. For water cooling enthusiasts, two water cooling holes also come standard.

Outlaw is also designed to give users maximum expansion possibilities. With four 5.25" and four 3.5" drive bays, users have plenty of room to expand their system, and with the included 2.5" SSD mount, users can equip their Outlaw with the latest in SSD technology. Along with the seven included PCI slots, gamers have all the room they need to make their Outlaw a force to be reckoned with.

When it comes time to put their system together, users will definitely appreciate the DIY-friendly features that are included with Outlaw. A large CPU cutout makes short work of swapping CPU coolers, and thoughtful cable management features make it easy to keep your system tangle-free. All drives can be secured using easy-to-use thumbscrews for added stability and tool-free installation.

BitFenix Outlaw will be available on store shelves beginning September 2011 with an estimated MSRP of 39€ (incl. 19% VAT) and $49.

ASUS Reveals the Republic of Gamers MARS II with Dual GeForce GTX 580 GPUs

The new ROG MARS II picks up where previous graphics card powerhouses from ASUS ROG left off, and continues the legacy of the finest hardware for hardcore gamers. The limited-edition card is built on twin NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 GPUs and a mammoth 3GB of GDDR5 video memory, with a proprietary ROG design that combines extreme cooling and extensive tuning facilities that cater to the most demanding power user. It also offers colossal pixel-pushing output that is unmatched by any graphics card.

Massive dual GPU power ― 22% faster performance than reference
The super-powered ROG MARS II reaches new peaks of performance — it runs 22% faster than a reference GeForce GTX 590 and offers tremendous potential. Its launch comes at a very opportune time for dedicated PC gamers, since it will be followed by the arrival this fall of several high-profile games that promise genuine next generation graphics with next generation hardware. The ROG MARS II has so much power it will be able to easily run all native DirectX 11 games in resolutions higher than 1080p and detail settings at their maximum levels. Its twin GeForce GTX 580 cores and 3GB of superfast GDDR5 video memory translate into the superlative performance that gamers are always seeking, representing a new benchmark in graphics dominance.

DirectCU II thermal design ― 600% greater airflow and 20% cooler than reference
In addition to the trademark red-on-black ROG color scheme, the ROG MARS II has twin 120mm fans that move up to 600% more air than the reference GeForce GTX 590 design, yet still remain quiet even under stress. ASUS DirectCU II technology means the GPU is cooled directly with all-copper pipes and a heatsink base, resulting in 20% lower temperatures. ASUS has also incorporated a Turbo Fan button on the card itself, allowing users to instantly switch the fans to 100% speed, regardless of driver settings. This feature proves very useful in overclocking situations where heat is a factor, as does the solid aluminum shroud that conducts heat away much more efficiently than the materials used in generic graphics cards.

Enhanced with 21-phase Super Alloy Power for a 15% performance boost
The ROG MARS II incorporates exclusive ASUS Super Alloy Power technology, which utilizes a special alloy mix for power delivery components that resist heat and material fatigue far beyond the norm. For this new graphics card, ASUS has expanded the technology to a 21-phase power architecture to ensure constantly stable wattage and prevent power loss, even in the most arduous of circumstances. This guarantees the kind of extensive overclocking headroom that has never before been seen in any graphics card, much to the delight of enthusiasts. As a result, this graphics card design leads to a 15% performance boost, 2.5 times the lifespan and up to 35°C cooler performance than reference cards. Users also benefit from a patented PCI-E anti-shock sustainer that keeps the card firmly in its slot, preventing deformation as a result of heat exposure and resisting vibration if the PC case is moved.
Collectors’ edition card with GPU Tweak utility

The ROG MARS II is bundled with the exclusive ASUS GPU Tweak utility, which puts users in direct control of the card’s extreme hardware. It offers modification of a wide range of performance parameters, including clock speeds, voltages and fan speeds, and all are accessible via a friendly and clear user interface. The GPU Tweak utility puts the immense processing muscle of the ROG MARS II at the disposal of gamers to make an ideal overclocking environment. A laser-carved, sequentially–numbered aluminum plate certifies each card’s limited edition status, making each one an icon that’s sure to be coveted by collectors.

Product highlights:
  • Dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 GPUs with 512 CUDA cores each and 3GB GDDR5 video memory for 22% faster than reference performance
  • Laser-carved aluminum plate identifies each card individually as a limited-edition item
  • Twin 120mm fans for up to 600% greater air flow
  • DirectCU II all-copper thermal design — 20% cooler than reference

Samsung Develops 30nm-class 32GB Green DDR3 for Next-generation Servers

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., the world leader in advanced memory technology, today announced the development of 32 gigabyte (GB) double data rate-3 (DDR3) registered dual Inline memory modules (RDIMMs) that use three dimensional (3D) through silicon via (TSV) package technology.

Samsung’s advanced 30 nanometer (nm) class technology leverages module performance and power features to deliver a substantially greener memory solution than the preceding 40nm-class based modules. Engineering samples have been released for evaluation.

“These 32GB RDIMMs fully support the high-density and high-performance requirements of next-generation high-capacity servers,” said Wanhoon Hong, executive vice president, memory sales & marketing, Device Solutions, Samsung Electronics. “We will keep providing memory solutions with higher performance and density, while enhancing shared value in the design of ever-greener server systems,” he added.

The new 32GB RDIMM with 3D TSV package technology is based on Samsung's 30nm-class four gigabit (Gb) DDR3. It can transmit at speeds of up to 1,333 megabits per second (Mbps), a 70 percent gain over preceding quad-rank 32GB RDIMMs with operational speeds of 800Mbps.

Further, the 32GB-module consumes a mere 4.5 watts per hour – the lowest power consumption level among memory modules adopted for use in enterprise servers. Compared to the 30nm-class 32GB load-reduced, dual-inline memory module (LRDIMM), which offers advantages in constructing 32GB or higher memory solutions, the new 32GB module provides approximately 30 percent additional energy savings.

These savings are directly attributable to the adoption of TSV technology, which enables a multi-stacked chip to function at levels comparable to a single silicon chip by shortening signal lines significantly, thereby lowering power consumption and achieving higher density and operational speed.

Samsung has collaborated with CPU and controller designers in addition to some current server system customers to facilitate quicker adoption of 3D-TSV server modules, and to pave the way for more easily supporting 32GB and higher-density memory modules based on 20nm-class DDR3 for use in high-capacity servers.
